A real case example of Dermal fillers

What are dermal fillers?

As we get older, the level of natural collagen in our skin decreases, reducing the fresh, youthful appearance of our skin. Skin becomes drier, thinner and duller. As we age we lose the abundant amounts of hyaluronic acid (HA) in our body losing facial volume and support. This results in drooping areas of the face and deeper lines and wrinkles. Dermal filler treatment can help reverse this!

By replacing these stores of HA we can regain that youthful appearance. Dermal fillers consist of the naturally occurring HA, therefore can rejuvenate these areas that need a lift.

Case Example:

dermal fillers before

This patient came to me feeling very unhappy with her lower face and jowl region. She has always looked after herself keeping fit and healthy, but over the past few years felt the lower face start to droop.

The patient’s main concerns were her nose to mouth lines, mouth to chin lines (marionette folds) and prominent jowls. These are very common concerns as we get older and we treated the patient as follows:

– Nose to mouth lines: dermal filler treatment (cannula)
– Marionette folds: dermal filler treatment (cannula)
– Jowls: combination of botox and dermal filler treatment to strengthen the lower border of the jaw.

What does dermal filler treatment involve?

The HA is directly inserted into the areas where volume and definition are required. I only use a microcannula in these areas (a plastic cannula not needle!). This highly skilled procedure increases safety, reduces post operative bruising and swelling and decreases any ‘lumpy’ feeling after treatment. The discomfort is minimal and the procedure is quick and simple.

Who has dermal filler treatment?

Anyone who would like to rejuvenate their appearance. Dermal fillers can be used for a wide variety of treatments including:
• Lip filler and augmentation
• Nasolabial folds (Nose to mouth lines)
• Marionette folds (mouth to chin creases)
• Cheek augmentation and sculpting:
• Tear trough reduction
• Chin and jawline definition:
• Non-surgical ‘nose job’
• Smoker’s lines
Often patients are looking to add structure and definition to their face which has been lost as we age. Many patients who live an active lifestyle (runners) have lost volume in the midface creating a sunken look – fillers can be used to improve this.
